Sunshine House International Pre-school (Clearwater Bay Campus) School Visit

Address:  Level 5, Silverstrand Mart, No. 2 Silver Cape Road, Clearwater Bay, Sai Kung

Free parking space is available.

The campus is relatively small.  There are two K1 classes and one K2 class.  However, as the number of students per class is relatively low, there is enough space for the students to play and enjoy their school life in the classrooms.

For K1, there are two streams:  Bilingual and English only streams.

You can refer to the daily timetable for each stream below:

There is also a common playroom (which is relatively big) for the students to run around and play as well.

There is no primary school network for the pre-school.  However, according to the staff, there were 5 graduates from last year who got accepted in Australian International School, 1 went to CIS, and 1 went to American International School (out of 9 K2 graduates from last year).

School fee:  $6300 HKD per month
Admission doesn't seem to be as difficult as some other kindergartens (as there are still places available for 2014-2015 as of now)

You can find out more information from their school website as well.

Victor's Comment:

If you are looking for a free and happy school, then this might be what you are looking for.  Also, the language environment is quite good as almost all of the staff are native speaking foreigners.   Also, the teacher seems to have more time to take care of each student individually as the number of students in a class is low.

German Swiss International School Sai Kung Campus

A new kindergarten and playgroup campus of German Swiss International School will be opened in Sai Kung in 2014.

Things to keep in mind:

-  The class will be taught in German (i.e. German stream)
-  The debenture structure is the same as the other campus
-  No assessment fee is required for this campus
-  The tuition fee is slightly lower than the other campus
-  Children joining the Kindergarten in Sai Kung will not automatically go through to Primary school. They will have to meet the entrance requirements for either stream and go through the entrance assessments. Attending the Kindergarten in Sai Kung will not guarantee your child a place in our Primary school

Why is Finland's Education System Successful?

The education system in Finland has been gaining a very good reputation in the past years.

Why is it so?

Perhaps the Hong Kong education system can learn a thing or two from them?

Kellett School (Kowloon Bay Campus) Visit

We went to the Kellett School (Kowloon Bay Campus) for a visit today.

It is about 15 minutes walking distance away from the Kowloon Bay MTR station.  There are a couple of parking areas nearby as well.

The campus is new and very impressive.  From the stairs to the classrooms, everything is top class.

From what we have seen, the students are all enjoying their time.  The younger kids are all either playing with their classmates happily or practicing their drama performance.  The kids' are confidence and are not shy when they meet with strangers (i.e. the visitors in this case).  The teachers seem to be very friendly and are willing to enjoy their time with the students as well.

The indoor multi-purpose sports area is very impressive as well.

The indoor 25 meter swimming pool is still under construction but it is expected to be opened soon.

The most impressive, hardware-wise, is the outdoor stadium and running track.  It is one of the best, if not the best, school facility we have ever seen in Hong Kong.

We ask for the admission information in the end and we notice that the waiting list is already very long (for year 2016, there are already over 500 applicants on the waiting list).

Victor's Comments:

Kellett School has very good reputation in Hong Kong and you can understand the reason after the school visit.  Both the software and hardware of the school seem to be top class.  It is relatively expensive, however, among the international schools in Hong Kong.
